POSTCARD FROM FRANCE   #7

JUNE 7,  PLUM VILLAGE  -    The smaller Spring Retreats have started, bringing an always interesting mixture of nationalities & personalities from Israel, US, Netherlands, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy, Germany, England, France…. The camera caught the June full moon rising over the temple bell tower; the bell tower itself at sunset; the large pond with giant floating artificial lotus blossoms; and the Sunday of Mindfulness formal lunch in the forest grove at Lower Hamlet, nuns residence. No new words yet on Thay since early April. Senior monastics just now returning from tour of Japan without TNH.

At the Sainte Foy la Grande Saturday market I caught up with Laurent, a musician & ceramicist, who also makes unique singing bowls. I met an interesting group of artists, Buddhists and bohemians from around Bergerac & Eymet at Laurent’s birthday party last year. He lived for years in San Francisco and speaks perfect Californian.

An charming, small street ensemble playing Piaf reminiscent genera at the market. My favorite, the purple, beret wearing lady on harmonica.

I finished a dinner of smoked salmon & Port Salut on cereal baguette & Bergerac rose by le river Dordogne, with the classic chateau.

My companions for an evening drink, Tony the Anglais and Francois the Francais by the Italian restaurant full of Brits on the square at Eymet.

Such a weekend! A Bientot!
